Plan Your Space
Plan your storage space. Place those items that you may need to access often in the front. Allow for walkways.
Take Inventory
Create an inventory of your items and keep it in a safe place at home or in a safe deposit box.
Protect Your Belongings
Place a protective cover (plastic sheeting) on the floor under your stored goods to guard against dampness. Any concrete floor may become cold and damp.
Be Careful
CAUTION! Do not store anything COMBUSTIBLE (i.e., paint thinner, gasoline, solvents, paint, etc.)
Stack Lighter Boxes on Top
Stack lighter boxes on top of heavier boxes.
Label & Seal Your Boxes
List contents of boxes on all four sides; number the boxes and seal with tape.
Do Not Store Food
To prevent bug infestation and rodents, do not store food or food items.
Dishes & Glassware
Wrap dishes and glasses in paper and pack in sturdy boxes. Stack them on top.
Protect Fragile Items
Wrap pictures and mirrors in cardboard and mark “FRAGILE.” Stand them on end.
Utilize Extra Space
Utilize furniture with drawers as storage places for pictures, knick-knacks, china, silverware, small items, etc. Wrap them in tablecloths, towels or blankets to prevent breakage.

Appliances
Utilize larger appliances as “packing cases” for blankets, towels, tablecloths and clothes.
Secure Electronics
Place TV's, electronics and other valuables in the rear of your unit.
Store Together
Store shovels, hoes, rakes and hoses together in empty trash cans. Stack extra cans inside each other.
Removable Legs
Remove legs of tables if possible to save space.
Stuffed Furniture
Store sofas and love seats on end to save floor space. Wrap cushions in plastic and place on top.
Sharp or Heavy Objects
Avoid placing heavy or sharp objects on top of upholstered furniture.
Cover Furniture
Cover stuffed furniture with cardboard or blankets to protect against dust.
Mattresses
If you stand mattresses on their sides, prop them up so they stand straight. They may tend to bend out of shape and become lumpy.
Secure Your Unit
Use a good quality lock on your door.
